In addition to a vibrant town life you will find a number of shows in Tønsberg during the summer, as well as the music festival Slottsfjellfestivalen and Vestfold International Festival. There is also a number of concerts, plays and art exhibits throughout the rest of the year.
Cultural monuments and history
Tønsberg was founded in 871 A.D. and is counted as the oldest city in Norway. In the middle of Tønsberg you will find the hill Slottsfjellet which was the biggest fortress in Norway during the 13th century. At the foot of the hill you can also visit the Slottsfjell Museum. There have been several excavations with discoveries from the viking age in and around Tønsberg. Some of these excavations you can see at the Tønsberg and Nøtterøy Library.
Activities for the whole family
Jungelby Lekeland is a big playland situated a 15 minute walk from Thon Hotel Brygga. Here you will find big trampolines, a four story climbing tower, a huge slide, climbing wall, pedal cars, electric carts, a section for toddlers, café, tv, internet access and more. At Kaldnes, across the canal, you can also find Active Family Centre with a big waterpark.
There are several options if you want to play golf when visiting Tønsberg. Nøtterøy golf course is the nearest option, a mere 10 minute drive from the hotel. You can also play at Vestfold golf course at Vear, a 15 minute drive from the hotel. At Vear you can also find Vestfold golf hall where you can play all year round.
