When Olav Thon established Rainbow Hotels in 1989 the idea was to offer centrally located bed and breakfast hotels at reasonable prices. However as the Chain grew with other types of hotels being built, it became necessary to change its profile. After comprehensive renovations and re-profiling work the Chain changed its name in October 2005 to Thon Hotels. At the same time the hotels were divided into three distinctive concepts: Thon Budget, Thon City and Thon Conference. Today Thon Hotels offers different hotels for different occasions.
Thon Hotels is part of the Olav Thon Group which represents all operations and companies that are, directly or indirectly, at least 50 percent owned by Olav Thon. The Group owns, develops, leases and operates, among other things, Real estate, hotels and restaurants.
