What to do at and around Thon Hotel Oslofjord

Oslo
Are you visiting Oslo to get a taste of the “Tiger City”? Want to see the Royal Palace, to take a stroll by the docks at “Aker Brygge” or the shopping street “Karl Johan”? Whatever your reasons for visiting Oslo, you’ll need these helpful tips. Leave your car here. Take the train or bus to the city. The bus to “down-town Oslo” stops right in front of the hotel and the train departs form the Sandvika Station. Parking is expensive in the city, spaces are scarce, traffic problems are common and it can be difficult for visitors to navigate in the streets of Oslo. Buy yourself a refreshing drink with the money you save on parking.
 
Movie theater
“Kino 1” in Sandvika is located next to the Sandvika Mall. A short 4-min walk and you are there.
 
Swimming/Outings
When the sun is shining, there is nothing more refreshing than a swim in the ocean. There are many wonderful swimming areas and beaches within walking distance from the hotel:

Kalvøya
This island, only a 10-min walk from the hotel, is a car-free environment with numerous of beaches and recreational areas. Walk to the back of the hotel and follow the path to the left until you see “Kadettangen” (beach) to your right. Proceed over the bridge and you are on the island. It is a paradise with a nature walk, badminton- and volleyball courts and soccer fields in addition to numerous beaches. You will also find boat and canoe rentals or you can try your luck at fishing.

If you would rather stay on the mainland you may want to relax at the child-friendly “Kadettangen” beach area only a 10-min. walk from the hotel.

Take a walk
Do you feel like stretching your legs? Walk to the back of the hotel and follow the path to the left until you see Kadettangen (beach) to your right. Proceed over the bridge and you are on Kalvøya (island).
 
Indoor swimming pools
The closest swimming pool is Nadderudhallen. Follow roadsigns to Bekkestua (R-160) or ask for more information at the reception.

Henie Onstad Kunstsenter (Art exhibit)
This art-centre is located about 5 min. from the hotel by car. Drive on E-18 towards Oslo and exit at Blommenholm. Follow the signs to “Henie Onstad Senteret”. This is Norway's largest collection of modern art. They also have a variety of other exhibits as well as a café and a restaurant. If you decide to visit the centre, bring your swimsuit because there is a beach close by as well as a walking trail along the coast.

Shopping
Shopping is for many a must when travelling. In the area around the hotel you will find the following shopping areas.

Sandvika storsenter is only a 4 min. walk from the hotel. A great variation of stores, cafés, restaurants, a pharmacy, movie theatre, exercise centre, Mc Donald’s and much more. The mall is open from 10am-8pm weekdays and 10am-6pm Saturdays.
 
IKEA
Believe it or not, this home furnishing store is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the area. Furniture, textiles, cups, plates, plants, candles, yard furniture, toys, bathroom accessories, kitchen accessories, beds, linens and MUCH more. They also serve simple food dishes and desserts. Open weekdays 10am – 10pm, Saturdays 10am – 6pm.
 
Parking
We have a garage for a fee of NOK 80.- per night. Free outdoor parking is availiable on request.
 
Fitness
Located on the U-floor, the health studio includes a solarium (NOK 40.- pr. 30 min). Jacuzzi, sauna and exercise equipment are free of charge.
 
Need to wash some clothes?
Have you been travelling long and far? Do you need to wash some clothes? No problem! On the U-floor you will find a washing machine, tumble dryer and an iron. You may also deliver your laundry in the reception and the laundry service will take care of it for you. (See separate price list.)

Hungry?
Breakfast is included in your hotel rate. Breakfast is served between 07:00 am –10:00 pm Mon. – Sat. Sundays from 07:00 am – 10:30 pm. You may pack a lunch to take with you for NOK 85.- per person.
Restaurant Aquarius serve small meals from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm. A la carte menu from 6:00 pm – 10:30 pm.
