Bergen has been named one of Europe’s 20 best cities to visit by Condé Nast Traveller.

The picturesque city has a harbour, docks and stunning views of the seven mountains. It’s no wonder why Norway’s second largest city has become a popular destination for tourists.

Where to eat in Bergen

The cobbled streets and charming wooden buildings are ideal for walking tours, and the city has many excellent restaurants. Intimate bistros and fish restaurants serve traditional cuisine and modern gourmet food. Enjørningen (The Unicorn) is a favourite among locals and visitors, as is Marg & Bein, Cornelius Sjømatrestaurant and Bien. If you prefer hot dogs, try a reindeer sausage to go at Trekroneren. The legendary stand has existed for more than 70 years - long before food trucks emerged.

What to do in Bergen

The world famous composer Edvard Grieg is from Bergen and his home for more than 22 years is now a museum. Edvard Grieg Museum Troldhaugen offers guided tours and a fairytale garden. Other popular attractions include The Ole Bull Museum and The Hanseatic Museum.

Nature worth seeing

One of the top things to do in Bergen is the funicular that will take you to the top of Mount Floyen where the view is spectacular. Bergen is also a great starting point for seeing Norway’s most beautiful fjords and mountains. The popular "Norway in a nutshell" tour is worthwhile – here you can enjoy the world famous Flåm Railway and a fjord cruise on Nærøyfjord.
