Thon Hotels is part of the Olav Thon Foundation and is therefore committed to actively take social responsibility. The chain also has numerous hotels along the Norwegian coast and considers it only natural that it support an organisation dedicated to saving lives at sea.

Safer coastline

"The Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue saves lives and provides important courses and training for everyone who spends time at sea. We have partnered up with the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue so that they can offer their members benefits and employees and volunteers a meeting place, and be an important contributor to their valuable efforts to ensure a safer coastline by covering the cost of accommodations for those in active service," says Stian Bergerud, Head of Collaboration and Innovation at Thon Hotels.

Those working on boats near the coastal hotels also enjoy an affordable stay.

Dependent on support

The Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue is a voluntary humanitarian member-based organisation that has been committed to making it safer on and by the sea since 1893. In order to be able to carry out this work, they depend on volunteers, monetary donations from individuals and the business community.

"Together with Thon Hotels, we at the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue can 'go out when others stay in port'. Norway has the world’s second longest coastline and it is a rough coastline that places great demands on our boats and crew members, both permanent and voluntary. Together we ensure that the coast is covered around the clock, every day of the year. Prevention is important in order to prevent accidents at sea and together we ensure even more safe users at sea," says Martine Thorleifsson, Business Marketing Manager at the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue.

The partnership means that Thon Hotels contributes to marketing the work of the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue, in addition to offering accommodations for those active in service.

Thon+ members enjoy favourable rates for courses and equipment that ensures their safety at sea.

In addition, Thon Hotels offers all members of the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue a discount on overnight stays.
