Sledding through beautiful nature
Become one with nature behind eager sled dogs. As you glide through the beautiful landscape while relaxing in the sled, you may spot Arctic and other foxes, owls, eagles, reindeer and moose. Afterwards, you can visit the dog yard and cuddle with both puppies and adult dogs, all of which are used to visitors.
Experience the unique landscape from a snowmobile
During winter, snowmobiles are one of Kautokeino’s most important means of transport. Go on an unforgettable snowmobile tour above the Arctic Circle and experience Northern Norway’s stunning and wild nature.
Our partners provide all the clothing and equipment you need for a comfortable Arctic experience. The tour starts with detailed safety instructions, as well as a practical demonstration of how to drive a snowmobile. You ride in pairs and there are plenty of opportunities to switch driver and passenger.

Sami traditions and activities

Experience reindeer up close
The oldest mode of transport in the north is a reindeer sled. Together with our partners, you can both feed the animals and experience this means of transport for yourself. Spend a day with a local guide and spend time with these amazing and rare animals in a safe setting. Daily tours through fantastic fjord and mountain landscapes are available all winter long.
Experience picturesque ice fishing lakes
Ice fishing is a favourite winter activity among locals. It’s both exciting and relaxing to sit on a reindeer skin on the ice during the 'blue hour' of the day, waiting to hook a big fish. In the lavvo, we gather around a warm fire while enjoying coffee and cake. It is also possible to pre-order Sami food. You are given fishing gear to use - and those who are interested, can take part in an ice fishing contest, with prizes for the winner
Lavvo activities
'Sami competition', lasso throwing, joik and reindeer broth are experiences that should not be missed. At the lavvo, you learn more about Sami life both in the past and today. You learn to throw a lasso and are treated to freshly cooked reindeer broth, joik and stories. If desired, a 'viddekamp' can be arranged - a fun competition within various Sami activities. Bring your colleagues and experience Sami culture first-hand.

Experience the best of the sea
King crab fishing
Take your colleagues out to sea for king crab fishing. In autumn, you have the opportunity to go on a boat tour, either on a high-speed RIB boat or a relaxing river boat. During the tour, magnificent king crabs are collected from crab traps. In winter, snowmobiles are used for transport and you can choose between driving your own or riding along as a passenger.
Did you know that you can drive across the Barents Sea in Kirkenes during certain times of year?
Another highlight after crab fishing is when the day’s fresh, juicy king crabs are served to course participants. A genuine delicacy from the deep sea. Based on your preferences, the meal can be served in a Sami lavvo or in a small seaside cottage on the jetty close to the hotel.
Whale watching
Winter is the best time of year to see whales in Norway. From mid-October to January, we some of the world’s largest mammals visit Norway, largely thanks to the herring found along the coast. Every year, giant humpback whales swim thousands of kilometres from the Caribbean Sea to the cooler waters of Northern Norway. There is more nutritious food here and our guides know exactly where to spot the whales. Depending on the season, you may also see orcas, porpoises and fin whales in the area.

Fishing trip in the Lofoten Sea
When visiting Lofoten, it’s almost mandatory to go out to sea on a fishing boat. Traditional Lofoten fishing, when skrei from the Barents Sea migrates to Lofoten to spawn, has been taking place for hundreds of years, providing Norwegians with essential meals as far back as the Viking Age. Lofoten fishing runs from the end of February to April, making this tradition a true winter adventure! Our partner takes you out on an authentic fishing boat and you can fish with a handline reel and/or fishing rod in the Lofoten Sea.
Sea eagle tour in a RIB boat
The Lofoten archipelago is spectacular and a RIB boat takes you close to nature. Our partner knows all the right spots to visit along the coast and where to spot majestic sea eagles up close. The tour itinerary is determined together with you based on the group's specific interests.
