The Twinings Best Breakfast competition is a hotel breakfast award that is held each year, also known as Norway's unofficial hotel breakfast championship.
A winner is announced in each region based on the old county division (19 regions), and all of these are eligible to compete for Norway’s best hotel breakfast in October.
The breakfasts are assessed based on the following criteria: The criteria on which the hotel breakfasts are assessed include the quality of the products, selection, presentation, information for guests, service, atmosphere, as well as cleanliness and tidiness.

Svetlana Stock is Hotel Director at Thon Hotel Alta, and is very pleased with the hotel being ranked in first place in Finnmark:
"Unbelievably great. This is really big, but also well-deserved! I think we won because we put so much love, planning and work into every single detail. What set us apart was probably that nothing in our breakfast offering is left to chance. It is made by people who love their job, and a lot of love has been put into it," says Svetlana Stock, as she speeds around the hotel, pointing out how hectic it is now in the middle of summer.
Won seven years in a row
Thon's Partner, Elgstua in Elverum, joined Thon Hotels in March, together with another of Thon's Partners, Hotel Central, which is also located in Elverum. The Elgstua gang is very pleased with the Twinings Award.
"Of course, we feel happy and proud, and perhaps a little relieved. We’ve been praised and awarded for our breakfast, so it’s nice to see that we're managing to maintain the quality," says Hanne Tømte, CEO of Elgstua AS.
Niklas Lindström, Operations Director, adds: "We’ve won the Twinings regional award for Hedmark seven years in a row! First and foremost, it is about our service and taking ownership of breakfast among all our employees. Our guests experience a welcoming, professional and informal atmosphere. Our amazing breakfast team serves guests, pours their coffee, talks to them, and makes them feel seen and cared for. We constantly try to improve, and our guests will always find something new for breakfast that is locally produced and homemade."
Service, presentation and selection
Stig André Nilsen, Hotel Director at Thon Hotel Arendal, says that he is once again proud to win Twinings regional award in Aust-Agder. This is the fourth time in a row that they have won this regional award (2017, 2018, 2019, and this year).
"It's so much fun, and our chefs and waiters deserve all the praise! It seems that we have once again succeeded in terms of the service, presentation and selection of products with their touch of local and organic food. The fact that breakfast is served on our top floor with fantastic views probably helps," says Nilsen.
