Thon Hotels named the hotel industry’s most sustainable brand in Norway

Thon Hotels is considered the hotel industry’s most sustainable brand in Norway in 2024.

Thon Hotels received the award through Sustainable Brand Index™, Europe’s largest independent brand survey with a focus on sustainability.

The founder of SBI, Erik Elvingsson Hedén, says the following about this year’s award winner, 

"Thon Hotels takes back first place in the hotel industry this year. This is partly due to the fact that customers are very positive about Thon Hotels’ sustainability and social responsibility efforts. Consumers notice measures aimed at more environmentally friendly consumption, food waste reduction and Thon Hotels' social responsibility and commitment to inclusion and diversity."

Thon Hotels has over 80 hotels in Norway and in recent years, has had a strong focus on such issues as waste (including food waste), energy, ethical requirements for suppliers and an inclusive workplace.

Thon Hotels is committed

Since 2012, the Olav Thon Group and Thon Hotels have been part of the UN initiative Global Compact, which is dedicated to such issues as human rights, anti-corruption and the environment.   

All our own Thon hotels are Eco-Lighthouse certified and we have employees who work continuously to reduce energy consumption and food waste.

As one of Norway’s largest hotel chains, Thon Hotels is a door opener to employment for many without an education or previous work experience. Inclusion, diversity and the further development of young talent in the tourism industry are important focus areas.

Thon Hotels is owned by the Olav Thon Foundation, which funds research, teaching and community initiatives.
