Join Us on a Journey to the Historic Island of Grip

A journey through nature and history – Norwegian coastal culture at its finest.

Embark on a historical journey to the oldest settlement in Nordmøre. Just under an hour by boat from Kristiansund lies the island of Grip – a former fishing village with roots dating back to the Middle Ages.

In a time before motorboats, living close to the fishing grounds was essential. Grip thus became an important fishing community as early as the medieval period. Here, you’ll find the world’s northernmost original stave church and a unique collection of buildings.

Upon arrival, you’ll be given a guided tour of the island, including a visit to the 15th-century stave church. The guide will share the island’s and the church’s unique history – from a bustling fishing hub to today’s peaceful summer retreat. The entire trip takes about 3.5 hours, and food and drinks are available for purchase.

Note: Valid only during the summer season: 29.05.2026 until 30.08.2026, and there are a 5-day cancellation period.
