At this restaurant, you can enjoy dishes your Italian grandmother would have made.

Dreaming of coming home to an Italian grandmother and being served generous portions of creamy risotto, fresh spaghetti and slow-cooked veal cheeks? And how about a homemade lemon sorbet or tiramisu for dessert?

At the Italian restaurant Osteria della Nonna in the Oslo city centre, the aim is to fulfil that dream.

"Osteria della Nonna means 'grandma's tavern'. We make you feel like you've come home to an Italian grandmother and can enjoy traditional food made with Italian ingredients," says the restaurant.

Italian cuisine at its best

Osteria della Nonna is located at Thon Hotel Rosenkrantz, across the street from City Hall and close to the National Theatre.

Whether you’re staying at the hotel or dining out in Oslo, you can enjoy the restaurant’s selection of antipasti, primi and secondi piatti.

“Lots of places serve Italian pizza, but we offer traditional Italian dishes you won't find anywhere else,” explains the restaurant.

The menu includes dishes like spaghetti with scallops, grilled tuna and aubergine rolls au gratin.

"For the main dishes, you can choose between a selection of contorni or side dishes and can put together your own meal. This also makes it easier to share."

Gatherings of up to 120 guests

Osteria della Nonna can accommodate 50 guests in the restaurant, but also offers the possibility to expand the room to accommodate up to 120 guests. They also have one of the city’s most inviting private banquet rooms, with Renaissance wallpaper and views of the restaurant.

The warm ambiance features lemon trees, clay pots and glass lamps. But even though the interior design is also inspired by Italy, the food is the main focus at Osteria della Nonna:

"It is important to us that as much as possible of what we serve is made from scratch using Italian ingredients. We import olive oil, wine, soft drinks, cheese and other foods from Italy and just ordered a half a tonne of San Marzano tomatoes. But they'll be gone in no time."
