We continuously work to reduce our environmental impact and contribute to a more sustainable society for future generations. Through our environmental policy, our hotels in Brussels are constantly improving their practices to offer our guests a more responsible and sustainable stay.
Green Key Certification
All Thon Hotels in Brussels are now certified with the international Green Key environmental label, a recognised certification awarded to hotels that actively implement sustainable practices.
To achieve and maintain this certification, our hotels follow strict criteria in areas such as environmental management, guest awareness, energy and water consumption reduction, responsible use of chemicals, and waste management.
100% Renewable Energy
Thon Hotels in Brussels is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and improving the sustainability of its operations.
All electricity supplied to our hotels comes from renewable energy sources through an electricity certificate agreement. In addition, solar panels have been installed at all our hotels except Thon Hotel Brussels City Centre.
To support greener travel, all our hotels are equipped with electric vehicle charging stations.
By investing in renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure, we continue to offer more environmentally responsible accommodation for our guests.
Green Spaces & Biodiversity
Several of our hotels actively support biodiversity and urban nature.
At Thon Hotel EU, guests can discover our rooftop beehives and garden, helping to promote biodiversity in the city. Thon Hotel Bristol Stephanie also features a dedicated garden space, creating a greener and more welcoming environment.
Green Voucher
Thon Hotels in Brussels collaborates with the European Cancer Organisation, the Belgian Red Cross and Birds Bay.
Guests staying more than one night can choose to display a green card on their door to indicate that they do not require room cleaning. In return, they receive a €5 green gift card that can be used in the bar or restaurant, or donated to GoodPlanet.
The donations support GoodPlanet projects that raise awareness among children and young people about sustainability topics such as responsible consumption, waste reduction, energy, climate, nature, food and water.
Responsible Water Consumption
Through our partnership with Made Blue, all our hotels are equipped with water fountains, allowing guests to refill reusable bottles and reducing the need for single-use plastic bottles.
As part of this initiative, plastic bottles have been removed from minibars, encouraging a more sustainable way of enjoying water during a stay.
Sustainable Mobility
During Mobility Week, all Thon Hotels in Brussels offer complimentary public transport tickets to guests, encouraging them to discover the city using greener transportation options.
We also support electric mobility by providing charging stations for electric vehicles across all our hotels.
Drip Drop Partnership
Through our partnership with Drip Drop, our hotels provide umbrella stations that allow guests to borrow and return umbrellas when needed.
This initiative helps reduce unnecessary purchases and waste while offering a practical solution during rainy days.
Blood Donation Day
Thon Hotel EU, Thon Hotel Brussels City Centre, and Thon Hotel Bristol Stephanie organise blood donation days several times a year in collaboration with the Belgian Red Cross.
By donating blood, plasma or platelets, participants help save lives and support the community.
Follow us on Facebook for upcoming dates.
Fairtrade Coffee
Thon Hotels in Brussels is committed to responsible sourcing and has chosen to serve only Fairtrade-certified coffee.
This partnership supports ethical production, sustainable farming practices and environmental initiatives, including the use of solar energy for coffee roasting, organic reuse of coffee grounds and recycled packaging.
Between 2016 and 2024, this collaboration contributed to:
- Protecting 830,756 m² of rainforest
- Protecting 48,075 trees
- Compensating 8,646,500 kg of CO₂ emissions
Sustainable Fashion Initiative
Every year, Thon Hotel EU organises a clothing exchange event to promote sustainable fashion and encourage guests and colleagues to give clothes a second life.
By choosing reuse over waste, this initiative helps raise awareness about more responsible consumption habits.
Reducing Food Waste
In partnership with Alpaca, our hotels work to minimise food waste by better managing surplus food and preventing unnecessary disposal. This collaboration helps us make our operations more efficient while contributing to a more sustainable food syste.
