Christmas market at Torvet

The Christmas market in Trondheim is held in December in the heart of the city at Torvet. Among decorated stalls, pine trees and thousands of lights, you'll find farmers and artisans ready to tell you the story behind their products. You may end up taking home a ceramic bowl, a glass of jam or even a Christmas tree.

The Christmas market is a feast for foodies. Here you can taste fresh farm-grown flavours and local produce and take something tasty home for the holidays.

Warm up in the lavvo

The lavvo at the Christmas market consists of ten connected lavvos that together form a ring around the statue of Olav Tryggvason. The lavvo is the Christmas market’s restaurant, where bonfires burn all day long. The benches are covered in reindeer skins and

the menu features dishes made with local ingredients.

See Trondheim from a height of 45 metres

Want to see the entire Christmas market from a bird's-eye view? Take a ride on the Ferris wheel, which towers 45 metres above Torvet. It is Northern Europe’s largest mobile Ferris wheel and all the gondolas are closed. If you tend to get cold easily, you can choose a heated VIP gondola.

Bakklandet, Nidaros Cathedral and Christmas concert

Stroll over Gamle Bybro to Bakklandet, where snow-covered colourful wooden houses reveal themselves in all their charm. There are lots of small cafés for enjoying hot chocolate. Make sure to visit Nidaros Cathedral while you're here. The cathedral is a stunning sight in winter and a Christmas concert at Nidaros Cathedral is an experience to remember.
