At Thon Hotel Fosnavåg’s own restaurant, you can enjoy a three-course meal in beautiful surroundings, right on the seaside. The restaurant serves fresh fish and homemade dishes prepared by renowned chef Filip August Bendi.

Madelynn Coffee

Madelynn is a coffee shop that serves a lot more than just cappuccinos and chai lattes. They have an American-style menu with sandwiches and burgers, all with a high X-factor.

Restaurant Fosnavåg Brygge

If you fancy a meal in a maritime setting, Restaurant Fosnavåg Brygge is an excellent choice. It is beautifully located in the Fosnavåg guest harbour and decorated in a rustic seaside house style, with maritime antiques and tools from the local area.

Mountain hikes

Fosnavåg is surrounded by beautiful mountains and there are lots of nice mountain hikes that are possible in the area, whether you just want to go on a quick walk or an all-day adventure.

Muletua

The most beautiful peak is Muletua, at 253 metres above sea level. Enjoy fantastic views in all directions – to the west you can see Svinøya, Skorpa to the south, the other mountain range on Herøy to the southeast and Runde to the northeast. At the top is a restored peat shed, a structure that used to store peat in the past. The hike takes about 40 minutes.

Sollia

This is the highest mountain in Herøy and it rises 660 metres above sea level. At the top, you can enjoy views in all directions and see Herøy, Sande, Ulstein, Sunnmøre Alps and Vanylvsfjella. Simply put, a beautiful sight! The hike is about 10.8 kilometres long and takes about four hours.

Rundebranden

This is the third largest bird cliff in Norway and has thriving birdlife and a wide range of plant species. The top is 300 metres above sea level and offers nice views of the ocean, the archipelago and mainland mountains from Stadt to Eide in Nordmøre. The trail from Goksøyr on Runde to the top goes steadily upwards and through partly marshy terrain. The hike is about 4 kilometres long and takes about two hours.

On Runde, you can also go on a guided tour organised by Opplev Runde. You get to enjoy fantastic nature experiences and the motto of the tour is 'learn by doing'. Along on the tour are professional nature guides who work closely with scientists and marine biologists at the Runde Environmental Centre. Guests experience not only the nature on Runde, but also learn about the surrounding ecosystems, which leaves a lasting impression.

Museums and attractions

Herøy Coastal Museum

Take a journey back in history at the Coastal Museum. The 19th century trading centre has various buildings, interiors, fishing equipment and boats. Among other things, you can take a closer look at the 'Anna Olava' sailing ship, a replica based on the finds from an old ship found at Håkonsholmen in Ulstein.

Runde Environmental Centre

Experience natural and cultural history up close at the Runde Environmental Centre. Learn about the diverse wildlife and unique natural heritage of the island of Runde, known for its spectacular seabird colony.

At the centre, you can explore exhibitions that showcase the area’s ecosystem, as well as learn about the exciting Rundeskatten, a spectacular collection of coins and objects from a shipwreck in 1725.

Activities on land

Sunnmørsbadet

When the weather is less than ideal, it can be nice to enjoy a warm indoor pool. The Sunnmørsbadet has something for swimming enthusiasts of all ages. There is a jacuzzi, children’s pool, slides, a competition pool and warm temperatures. In between all the swimming, visitors can relax and enjoy a snack at the café.

High-quality local cinema

Residents of Søre Sunnmøre head way to Fosnavåg to go to the cinema. Fosnavåg Concert Hall was completed in 2014 and has a modern cinema that can accommodate up to 91 film buffs. It is the first cinema in the country to combine Dolby Atmos with speakers from Meyersound, providing a powerful cinematic experience. In addition to the cinema, the concert hall also has a modern concert hall with capacity for 490 guests and a rich cultural programme.

Swimming and climbing in Mulevika

Mulevika is a lovely little bay in the southwest of Nerlandsøya in Herøy. With its fine sand and big waves, it's a popular place to swim. The amount of sand can vary from year to year, as the swells from the Atlantic Ocean both wash it away and back in again.

Mulevika also has a large and attractive climbing area. There are both easy and challenging routes and there is an area nearby to pitch a tent to relax and enjoy the sunset. And what's better than ending an intense climbing session with a refreshing swim?

Group activities

The bird cliff on the island of Runde is well known far beyond Norway’s borders. Between 250 and 300 different bird species have been registered here and it is the southernmost bird cliff in Norway. Havopplevelse offers guided tours around Runde in a RIB boat. Here you can see the bird cliff from the water, admire the Runde lighthouse along the way and last but not least, hear the story of Rundeskatten.

The tour departs from the pier below Thon Hotel Fosnavåg.

Runde Island can also be visited by boat. Go on a guided tour and get up close to the birds on the impressive bird cliff. You can also experience an abundance of other wildlife, good hiking trails and Rundeskatten, which you can see at the Runde Environmental Centre.
