Environment and green operations
As one of Norway’s largest real estate operators and hotel chains, we have a significant environmental responsibility. We focus on environmentally friendly consumption, reduced waste and energy savings.
The Olav Thon Group has since 2012 participated in the UN initiative Global Compact. This is the world’s largest corporate social responsibility initiative. The Olav Thon Group works systematically with social responsibility in the areas of human rights, working conditions, the environment, anti-corruption and social engagement.
Eco-Lighthouse (Miljøfyrtårn)
All our hotels in Norway - both franchise and privately owned - are Eco-Lighthouse certified, which means that we focus on:
- Waste reduction and eco-friendly waste handling
- Energy-reducing measures
- Procurement of environmentally friendly products
- Focus on measures for better working conditions
- Organic food
Green Dot
Thon Hotels is also a control member of Green Dot Norway and sets requirements for its Norwegian goods suppliers for membership in the return scheme for packaging. We also set strict ethical requirements for our suppliers.
Reduce food waste
Thon Hotels works systematically to reduce food waste at all our hotels. Among other things, we collaborate with “Too Good To Go”, where surplus food is sold.
Energy
The Olav Thon Group works systematically with energy reduction, and our goal is for energy issues to be included in relevant decisions that affect energy consumption. We set annual energy targets, and with the help of active energy monitoring, we document and report the energy performance achieved.
Through energy management, we focus on energy consumption, power consumption and CO2. Through good planning, we want to minimise future energy costs.
Systematic energy monitoring is a good example of the fact that there is no conflict between sustainability and economy. Saved energy is also saved CO2.
